Back on the Wagon [Day 3]

I had such a great workout today. Really! The past couple weeks (okay months maybe) I have really been slacking off as far as workouts go. I mean, yeah I was getting a decentcalorie count (averaging to about 400 calories per half-hour of cardio) and sweat loads during the random times that I decided to actually work out, but I never felt as if I were challenging myself.

Today I did.

I eschewed the Stairmaster and instead, opted for the Step Mill (giant escalator-like machine). My co-worker has been urging me to try it out since forever, telling me that it was a better workout than just the Stairmaster; I felt otherwise. The first time I ever tried the Step Mill, maybe 3 or 4 years ago, I did about 10 minutes and hated it. I hadn’t been on ever since then, well, not until today. Today I walked straight to it and jumped right on. Oooweee what a workout! I barely got through 20 minutes of it! My thighs were killing me, I was out of breath, sweat was pouring down my face, and I was loving it (too bad I couldn’t do a complete 30 min).

To finish off my cardio, I decided to spend the last 10 minutes on the Stairmaster, and just use a higher level than I’m used to. I was walking to the magazine rack to grab something to read, when my manager waved to me. She was working out on the elliptical and was pointing frantically at our maintenance guy (whom I absolutely adore). He was working out on one of our newer machines, the Arc Trainer and looked pretty much beat. The poor guy was drenched in sweat and beet red! My manager wanted me to try the machine out with him, so that’s exactly what I did.

Oh my gosh!

I didn’t know this before, but the Arc Trainer is like the elliptical machine BUT A MILLION TIMES HARDER! Oh man, my legs have basically had it now, I’m pooped!

After all that cardio (okay 35 mins isn’t much, but its okay), I got about 20 minutes of shoulders and arms done, and then spent a good 15-20 minutes on core work. I recently learned how to do a dead-bug on the Bosu ball and have become obsessed with it (since I’m not so great on it). Today I was finally able to do a full extension of the leg and arm without toppling over. I’m proud 🙂 I also did a whole bunch woodcutters with a medicine ball and some Bosu plank-and-drive-ins.

I admit, I had fallen off the exercising bandwagon, because school and work got so busy. But now I’m back on and so motivated to improve myself. I want to lose about 15 lbs by the end of summer or mid-September, and so I’ve got to work super hard to achieve that. Hopefully I’m able to create an exercise plan (something on my to-do list) and be able to stick with it.
